Mycelium Feel Your Footprints

Into the first few weeks of Spring here in the NE United States, and things are beginning to emerge again into the world! Buds on the trees, tiny green shoots of perennials pushing through the soil, and the bird songs are louder and louder each day. Did you ever wonder why the bird song increases during those first few hints of Spring in late February and throughout March? When you find your attention stolen by the permeating calls of the Robins, Blue Jays, Finches and Chickadees while getting into the car or bringing out the trash? The birds imbue their beautiful song on us and across all creation for a very specific reason.

The increase in daylight and gradually warming temperatures are not the only indicators that Spring is on its way. The bird’s song actually ignites rhizobacteria in the ground to tell the plants it’s time to begin growing. Mycelium across the vastness of all the Earth are energized by feeling the reassuring birdsongs of Spring.

This energetic frequency floods into the rhizobacteria on the roots of plants, and around the seeds that have been resting all winter; urging them to move towards a new season of life. This symphony is not only helpful to springtime growth but continues to aid all summer long, promoting stronger and more vivacious plants. This is another reason why planting native, and re-wilding your property to invite in biodiversity is a win-win for everyone. Where there is more bird song, the soil, the plants, and your eardrums are happier.

It’s almost like it was intended to be that way…. hmmmm.

Dandelion is a potent medicine for the kidneys, liver, gallbladder, and it even strengthens the heart by lowering cholesterol and regulating blood sugar. Every portion of the Dandelion is edible and medicinal, however what I also respect about Dandelion which is seldom recognized, is its energetic properties aside from the physiological. Dandelions will grow in almost every type of dirt, they not only grow with great pride wherever they are; but they also send a deep tap root down into the ground that loosens up hard-packed soil. This helps to aerate the earth, reducing erosion. These little flowers barely get the attention of us as we regularly go about our lives, and are often misunderstood as people try to rid them from their lawns or gardens. Yet they have such a strong message for us that we are missing!

mycelium, a root-like structure of a fungus

There are infinitely fascinating parts about the mycelial network that holds our Earth together in union, but today we’re going to be learning about frequencies, in which they directly respond to. If you are unfamiliar with what a mycelial network is, allow me to explain. The mycelial or mycorrhizal web beneath the surface of the Earth, is a network of tiny threads of fungi that stem from the roots of plants; interconnecting them with all the other roots of adjacent and also far away plants. If you know anything about the fascia of the body, it demonstrates a good parallel to the mycelium.

connective tissue in the body

The fascia or connective tissue that you have at the bottom of your toes, is connected as one continuous unit all the way up around your head. The connective tissue in our bodies envelops all our skeleton, muscles, joints, organ systems, and nervous systems. If we didn’t have the fascia connecting everything together… we would be a big jumbled mess! This intelligent connective tissue helps to communicate information from here to there. Messages, nutrients, feelings and healing are transferred through this network that keep your body working as an impeccable unit.

The mycelium in the earth function the exact same way. If a Rose bush gets damaged by a weed whacker and sends out an emergent response of “Ouch! I’m hurt”, the mycelium are going to redistribute nutrients and materials in the soil from plants that don’t need as much, to try to attend to the wound of this Rose bush. If an Elm tree is infected with the Dutch Elm Disease, it will send an alert via the mycelial network to all the other Elm’s around it to put their defenses up. The mycelial web will then fast track defensive mechanisms to the immune systems of these trees, helping them put up a better fight. This applies to dying plants as well, if a plant knows it’s on its last leg in life, it will choose to send its magical mycelial juices back out away from it to other plants. This allows its neighboring plants to be strengthened, while their nearby hero dies a valiant death. Could we do the same? If you feel as though your cup is full, maybe someone else could use a sip of your light this week… or conversely, if your cup is draining can you reach out for support knowing it’s your inherent and natural birth right to ask for what you need?

Think of yourself as a baby inside your mother’s womb, consistently fed all the nutrients and support from your umbilical cord. You didn’t have to ask for it then, but now as adults we’ve forgotten that we deserve to be nourished at all times, from various avenues. Choose to reach out for what you need, or give it if you have it. Let’s unite just as the mycelium does for the plants.

Over the many millennia that humans have occupied earth, we have always gathered in song, celebration and prayer. The indigenous tribes all over the world held drum ceremonies where they would not only commune with their fellow humans, but also with the Elements, and the Great Spirit(s) at large. You see, the drumming, music playing, singing, chanting and dancing activated not only their spirits, but also the spirit below the surface of their feet. As we just learned the mycelium are extremely sensitive to frequencies, and they especially love the frequency of love. One of the most potent frequencies on Earth at 528hz, it’s even been used with efficacy to repair DNA. If this frequency of Love can repair DNA that’s been damaged, imagine what it can repair in the mycelial network or within our own brokenness!

two birds flying among the trees in Costa Rica

Recently I went to Costa Rica for the Envision Festival. The festival grounds were a cattle ranch years ago, completely barren with little semblance of the once rich rainforest that existed before it was depleted. Since Envision has begun stewarding this land with principles of compassion, integrity and reciprocity.

Now over 10 years later, the trees and plants are thriving with lifeforms of all sorts. The biodiversity has improved so significantly that even the monkey’s and scarlet macaws have returned! This is evidence that conscious and intentional celebration from the powerful center of our hearts, has the ability to heal landscapes. Why, you ask? Because we ARE frequency. Our bodies are an energetic container exuding frequency at literally any given point throughout our lives.

While at the festival, I was perched on a blanket listening to the mystical tunes of Alex Serra, and laid down for a rest. After some time I placed my head on the Earth with my ear pressed against the blanket. As I began listening to the sound frequencies being distributed down into the Earth, it sounded like the string of a harp and the steady blare of an oboe being played through the ground. You could actually hear the mycelium digesting the sounds into their many layers, and into their own symphony that was both similar to the one I was hearing, and yet entirely different. I listened for quite some time absolutely gobsmacked at what I was hearing.

The mycelium was listening to the same show I was listening to. Now let’s just take a deep breath to allow that sentence to make a thread of sense in our minds...

I was literally listening to the network that is responsible for the unity of all plant consciousness, listening to the same show that I was listening to. Just as when we humans listen to music, some people focus on the bass, or the lead guitar or maybe the drums or piano, maybe you only really ever notice the person’s voice who’s singing. This same process was happening for the fungi beneath my head as I laid there, piecing the frequencies that they most fancied into their memory, just like I was.

Just as the nature celebration and active prayer frequencies that Envision festival has promoted to heal the landscape there… How can we shift our attention to the frequency we emanate? How can we attempt to make each step of our lives ahead be a prayer on the earth? You choosing to walk with love in your heart literally heals landscapes, no matter if you are celebrating in a drum circle or running out to grab coffees for the office.

It makes a difference.

How you move about life is interpreted by those listening beneath your feet. My question for you now is, what do you want your frequency to be? What frequency would you prefer to be left under each of your footprints as you walk across the earth?

What do you want the mycelial consciousness to know about you?

Walk this week ahead with the intention to leave a prayer behind you beneath each step forwards…

With much love and gratitude,

Taryn xx
