An Invitation into Intimacy with your Mystery

We just entered Taurus season this past week, happy day if you’re a Taurus! We love you… Taurus is an Earth sign if you didn’t already know that. We just came out of a fire sign- aka Aires. Although Aries season is over, due to its nature as a Cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) it sets the tone as one of the leaders of the Zodiac for the whole Spring. Then Cancer for the summer, Libra for the fall, and Capricorn for the winter if you’re following. So how may these two energies be dancing together in the next several weeks under the umbrella of Taurus? Earth seasons (and sometimes people) like Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn; all feel more comfortable with information where they can see it, touch it, and know it.

Grounded in reality, these seasons of Earth really appreciate having all their facts on the table. They appreciate the material, the knowable, the tangible. And with fiery Aries energy still blowing down our necks as we enter into this Earth season of Taurus, it wants concrete answers! And quickly! Taurus and Aries together assure each other that security and stability will be created from a place of harnessing it from the ether, and furnishing it back down into Earthen standards. The problem with all of this is, it’s linearity.

Don’t get me wrong, there may be seasons where we make a decision, go out and make that decision manifest in record times. If you’re a person who does this all the time, I bow to you! But in general terms, there is usually a curly, squiggly and round-about line that’s drawn between the seed of our desires, and the outcome of those desires. Aries likes to solve problems by blasting their energy through hurdles and stalemates, and Taurus expects to know the map before embarking on the journey. Thing is, the mystical and sometimes downright uncertain route from an idea to it’s fruition, is not preferred by either of these astrological signs.

Aries and Taurus especially, wiggle in discomfort within uncertainty's grasp. My sister is an Aries, and my husband was a Taurus; and I’ve watched them wiggle in the face of the unknown many, many times. They aren’t so different from the rest of us though, right? Finding ourselves belayed between two ideas, places, outcomes or states of being is never a time of peace and dare I say patience. It’s our human brain's organic nature to try to solve problems as quickly and with as little energy as possible to keep us alive. The predicament before us, is that there really are some questions that do not have an answer, at least not right away. There are some situations life poses that beg us many questions, with an answer that pervades us like a cat before a bath.

Patience and intuition are synonymous as we learned last week. Another noteworthy aspect to highlight about how patience seamlessly intertwines with intuition, is its fascination with ‘the mystery’. One must be a student of the mystery that intuition imbues. Now… that feat is easier said than done.

I believe there’s a heavy emphasis ahead of us as Taurus season saunters onwards, of giving ourselves what we need while wrapped in the throws of said mystery. The full moon which occurred on this past Tuesday 4/23, was a good example of that liminal and unseen, mysterious energy that comes out of nowhere to knock on our doors. The full moon was in Scorpio, which is possibly the most mysterious and bewildering of all the signs in the Zodiac.

So throwing Scorpio’s, deep, dark and sometimes twisty energy into the structure loving duo of Aries and Taurus this month, is a recipe for contraction! From what I’ve interpreted, a divine teaching that the full moon had for us is to attempt to love the mystery.

How often when trying to bring something to life whether it be with: work, relationships, businesses and in our own healing and souls paths, do we get frustrated because the light above our desk keeps flickering on and off? This is understandable considering we’ve been conditioned for the last many generations to produce results at all costs, know all the answers, and don’t stop whatever it is, until it is done. It’s infuriating to get a hit of inspiration (Aries), then our brain creates a nice linear road map to get there (Taurus), and then a rogue bat comes out of nowhere, steals the map and disappears with it into their cave (Scorpio).

The mind is disabled in these moments, you cannot simply ask for this bat to return your items and information. They aren’t interested in following the rules you lay down for them. Exiting their cave and bringing the map back to you is unlikely, bats are not golden retrievers. But by accepting the mystery, by leaning into the darkness and rummaging around within that cave… we could come upon something even more miraculous than that original map in the first place. We could even find hidden treasure.

This is the medicine of strengthening a bond with your inner compass or intuition during these times of mystery, between where you’re at, and where you want to go. As we chatted about last week, having patience for yourself during that quest into your inner caves, is an integral part of the process.

The labor of bringing an idea or creation we’ve been gifted from some ‘mysterious’ place in the deep throws of the mist, out and into tangible form is usually necessary. Think about the mystical way children are gifted into the world… science can explain what happens once the sperm has met the egg… but fails to mention the magic of why on Earth that sperm and egg were chosen to pair to begin with.

The female egg magically ‘chooses’ which sperm it wants to merge with, not the fastest one that gets to it first, and not the strongest one who’s kicked everyone else out of the way.. The egg meticulously chooses a particular sperm for no particular reason, to fertilize it.  To science this is a mystery. To me, it is magic.

You are a product of a magical choice that was decided by something far grander than science can conceptualize.

Intuition is something that cannot be contained or or kept, and that's why the powers that be have tried their darndest to detach people from this superpower we all inherently have access to. They want to fit us into pretty little boxes they’ve constructed for us, and to follow the pretty little plans they’ve mapped for our lives. Intuition is a lot more like that bat we mentioned above, it doesn’t adhere to demands; and containers are not the preferred environment for a being accustomed to the vast night sky.

I believe being a true student of this mystery, is to behave little like the ‘student’ archetype we know. Not studying the details, not asking any and all questions until we’re blue in the face, and definitely not pleading or performing for validation (a grade). To be intimate with the mystery life undeniably presents us with time and time again, is a recurring cycle of realizing we’re in the swirl of it, and recentering back home to self. Is there a small or large part of you that is irate with unpredictable and precarious experiences?

Our brains are wired for order and linearity like I said before, there is nothing wrong with you if you silently nodded your head yes to that question! But these same brains were gifted to us from that mystical place where the sperm met the egg… so I would argue if we were born from mystery, it must still be in there somewhere. And if it’s in there somewhere, it’s a part of who we are. All parts of us, the good, bad and the ugly deserve our attention, admiration, empathy and respect.

If mystery is banging down your door in this Taurean season ahead and your mind wants to have a meltdown about the uncertainty it’s posing. Please allow those emotions through you, getting past them to then bask in the light of the moon, watching the shadows of bats dance above your head. Know that once you get to the place where you can just sit and merely observe the shadowy yet graceful beings that are our unconscious, potentially the sun could begin to rise.

Give yourself the offering of being patient with your mystery, maybe for the very first time and see where it leads you… and if you do decide to venture into that cave to find your map…

I pray you find treasure instead.

I’d like to invite you to explore these journal prompts to investigate where your resistance lays in relation to the mystery life brings our ways.
